Situated on an extensive 300-hectare site in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, "Project Green" represents a significant leap in energy diversification and the advancement of local content development in the region.
With its jettyless terminal technology, ECOnnect Energy is set to facilitate the marine-based export of 520,000 metric tonnes per annum of renewable (blue and green) methanol and 1,120,000 metric tonnes per annum of green ammonia, marking a substantial contribution to the project's commitment to sustainable energy and reducing dependency on imported fossil fuels. ECOnnect is also positioned to connect the project with leading Norwegian technology in electrolysers and carbon capture.
Driving Innovation Through Strategic Collaboration
As a frontrunner in providing groundbreaking infrastructure solutions, ECOnnect Energy's collaboration with APPL in "Project Green" underscores a shared vision for sustainable development and environmental stewardship. The jettyless terminal designed by ECOnnect will be instrumental in ensuring the efficient and environmentally-sound export of methanol and green ammonia produced at the site.
The first phase of the project harnesses the power of local renewable hydropower and natural gas, aiming to produce blue methanol and of green methanol for export. The e-methanol will be produced in a state-of-the-art 484 Mwe combined cycle power plant with advanced post-combustion CO2 capture, embodying the sustainable and circular approach to fuel production championed by "Project Green." The subsequent phase will focus on the production of green ammonia, further solidifying the project's role in fostering a greener future.
Commitment to Sustainable Development and Infrastructure
"Project Green" is not just an energy project; it's a commitment to substantial civil infrastructure development, including the construction of a hydropower dam, a 200MW connection to the Nigerian National Grid, and top-tier methanol and ammonia production facilities. With the goal of becoming fully operational by January 2029, ECOnnect Energy is proud to contribute to this transformative initiative, alongside esteemed partners.
A Vision for the Future
Idara Ekpo, Chief Visionary Officer at APPL, commended the partnership, highlighting, "ECOnnect provides low-impact technology that is the first of its kind. Their jettyless solution not only complements our environmental goals but also aligns perfectly with our project objectives, ensuring a short lead time and adding immense value to 'Project Green'."
“We are very excited to be part of this project,” said Morten A. Christophersen, CEO at ECOnnect. “Our focus remains steadfast on delivering innovative, sustainable energy solutions and contributing to the socio-economic growth of the region.”
